Oh man it is so good to be back! I was on a trip without any access to the internet whatsoever! It was kind of nice considering it gave me a chance to "unplug" and live in the present moment. Try it sometime!
This last weekend I had the super rad opportunity to speak with the Taylors Falls Lions Club. They said they enjoyed learning about it from a teenagers perspective on teen depression rather than an adult. They had no idea that depression effects teens differently than it can in adults. THAT Is why my platform needs to be heard. THAT is why it is so close to my heart. They didn't know. Mental Health America says that 30-70% of suicides stemmed from some form of depression (or bi-polar) disorder. That is huge! They also say that 8 out of 10 victims showed indications before they took their lives. Now think about it. If we were able to spread awareness of symptoms, resources, and the FACT that it is survivable, do you think that number would lower?
In 2016 we have so much potential to be exactly who we want to be. I believe that should you ever experience depression, (which I truly hope that you don't.) that you have the tools to get help. We need to know the signs, where and how to get ourselves professional help so that we can lift depression and prevent relapse. It is possible. I have so much faith in the people that are here today that we can do great things. Let's put our energy towards that.
