I am from Taylors Falls so my favorite thing to do is get lost on the trails. It's so much fun just picking a direction and finding your way back. I also work part time at a gas station with a perfect view of the town. I attend Trio Wolf Creek Online Charter school as well. I am on the honor roll and take a community awareness course for extra credit at my school. I love my charter school since it helps me get my schooling done and keep up with such a busy lifestyle!
I also spend a lot of time at our local Snap Fitness. I had the opportunity to host a Zumbathon for my platform with the help of our wonderful instructor! I also take part in Les Milles Body Pump class and Zumba. Fitness has been such a big part in my life this past year. It has become one of my favorite things!
I am a volunteer and advocate for the Northwoods Humane Society, NAMI, Stomp Out Suicide, Mental Health America-Minnesota, Minnesota Association for Children's Mental Health, and a Junior Counselor at MNGYC. I created, organized, and hosted fundraisers for Stomp Out Suicide and my platform Reaching Out! I have donation jars that I made set out at the gas stations in my community and spoke to the Taylors Falls Lion's Club on my platform (and this is just the beginning). I have a Facebook and Instagram page for my platform, where I post uplifting quotes and members of the pages can add things they like, and my personal blog on this website!
All of that community service and I'm STILL striving for more. Being crowned Miss Teen Minnesota International 2016 would open so many doors for my platform, which is why it's so important to me. According to Mental Health America, 30-70% of suicides are caused by some form of depression (and bi-polar). I believe that if we bring more awareness to the symptoms and utilize more resources, we could greatly lower that percentage. This crown would open doors to a much more broad group and we could reach so many more educators, parents, and teens. Everybody needs to know where and how to get help, should they ever experience depression. We need to be telling everybody. Tell the lady in front of you at the grocery store, the mail man, your mother, everybody and their mothers.
